  1. Chapter 11 discussed different programs that just worked with certain students. I liked the one where they started out a just a getogether and it turned into famlies and teachers talking about how to improve or to help the students, by learning more about their hertiage.
I did not like a couple of the groups because they wait until the students are in 5th. and 6th. grade. By this time it is harder to reach the child and their family if at all. Debbie Baker

  2. Chapter 12 pretty much summed it all up. Tansforming our schools through partnerships. These partnerships come between the school and home. Communication, encourage learning at home, support, and making joint decisions. Asking yourself could this make the difference in your school and community? And are we willing to consider the long term commitment that comes with this plan.

  3. Chapter 11- it shared different ideas of groups that were formed to meet the children of different cultures. One group met on Saturday and that sounded good for the working parent to be involved in the academic success of the child and created the opportunity to get to meet the other families and cultures within the classroom. I think it also showed that the teacher was proactive in working with the families as well as the child. There were two programs chapter 11 mentioned that were gender related as well as culture related. It seems that different cultures/genders have different needs at different ages to help those children be successful. I feel that anything that the parent/teachers do outside of the norm/expected is helpful to the student and the more the better.

  4. Chapter 9 disscussed childrens histories and heritage. My favorite was the family heirloom and making your family creast out of pictures drawings or words.
